This NABERS Thermal Energy Systems Interim Rules is a standalone Rule document that covers the topic of thermal meters and the treatment of data from these systems.

This document contains requirements and discussions on the following topics:
- Treatment of thermal energy systems data, including updates to the simplified and standard methodologies.
- Clarification on requirements for validation of thermal meters.
- Documentation required as evidence when using thermal energy systems in a Rating.
Application
This new Rule document is to be read in conjunction with the Metering and Consumption Rules and the Rule document applicable to the scope of the rating.
Interim status
These Rules will come into effect on the 1st October 2021.
To assist industry with the roll out of these new requirements, NABERS is publishing these Rules as an Interim Rules. This means Assessors and Building Owners are able to use the Rules while NABERS continues to work with stakeholders and the wider industry towards providing further guidance on the more complex aspects of Thermal Energy Systems.
An update to these Rules is expected in FY23.

Cogeneration and Trigeneration Systems Ruling
NABERS has released an update to the Ruling on Treatment of Cogeneration and Trigeneration Systems. This update provides clarity and additional guidance on treatment of these systems.
Also updated is the NABERS Cogeneration Calculator, which Assessors must use to account for cogeneration or trigeneration systems as part of NABERS ratings.
