NABERS Waste Accelerates

News | 15 Jul 2020

NABERS Waste has gone from strength to strength this year. Since being re-launched, NABERS Waste has progressed from measuring recycling rates to also tracking data quality, material quantities and end of life outcomes. This helps the Waste Platform Manager and NABERS ratings contribute to circular economy actions and outcomes, as well as play a key part in Climate Active Carbon Neutral certification.

Most major building types can now use the platform to track, measure, report on and improve waste management. Food and industrial manufacturing facilities, aged care facilities, universities and TAFEs, pubs, small hotels, warehouses and distribution centres, beverage production facilities, conference venues, correctional facilities, entertainment precincts, government reporting entities, hospitals, managed parklands, museums, pharmaceutical production facilities, registered clubs, schools, stadiums, transport stations, theatres, zoos and aquariums will now be able to track their waste management and resource recovery using the state of the art NABERS online platform.

Additional waste streams now able to be managed using NABERS include catering donated to charities, coffee cups, medical waste, palettes, textiles and mattresses (among others). Customers can generate more accurate information about their buildings’ performance. Buildings that recycle more will be able to use the platform to demonstrate better performance and obtain a higher waste rating.

Soon, even buildings unable to get a rating yet will be able to get a Data Verification certificate, giving customers confidence in the data they receive and the figures they report.

NABERS has also begun investigating a portfolio-wide overview of waste management and outcomes for building owners and managers. This will make reporting easier and outliers easier to identify. The outcome will be that great achievements can be celebrated while any issues can be rectified quickly for faster improvements and better outcomes, even without large, dedicated teams.
