Launched: NABERS Sustainable Finance Criteria

News | 01 Jun 2022

NABERS Sustainable Finance Criteria launched to support green investment and sustainable buildings in Australia.

Financial institutions are increasingly looking for investments with significant environmental impact that can be easily verified. The process to participate in these investments can often be complex and time consuming for both borrowers and lenders.

In response, the NABERS Sustainable Finance Criteria has been launched to set consistent NABERS-based targets to help borrowers and lenders demonstrate eligibility. It has been developed and piloted in consultation with the investment community and building owners.

We are delighted to launch the NABERS Sustainable Finance Criteria today. This framework builds on the rigour and simplicity of NABERS Energy ratings, to make green lending in the built environment more accessible, environmentally ambitious and transparent.

The Criteria sets out 3 different methods to demonstrate eligibility for a green loan. It can be used for building upgrades, high performing assets and high performing portfolios.

The NABERS Sustainable Finance Criteria was released on Wednesday 1 June 2022.

The NABERS Sustainable Finance Criteria is adding to the growth of the green loans market by providing consistent targets that can be applied across Australia. NABERS ratings provide a clear conduit between building performance at a local level and international standards such as the European Taxonomy.
