NABERS has launched a dynamic new digital public awareness campaign to encourage more buildings and businesses to take strong action against climate change by measuring and understanding their building's environmental footprint.
NABERS’ "It's in the Stars" campaign will comprise eye-catching and vibrant visuals shared across multimedia channels - including LinkedIn, Twitter, Google and more – with inspirational messaging themed around empowering people to chart a path to sustainability success.
The campaign forms part of a larger national push to accelerate the critical reduction of our built environment's emissions. Buildings are responsible for 40% of the world's carbon emissions and use approximately 40% of the world's energy and 30% of the world's available drinking water. Therefore, the building sector must play a significant role in the climate change solution - and we need every building everywhere on board in this critical decade to deliver on climate action.
Fortunately, slashing emissions from buildings is one of the fastest and most cost-effective ways to reduce overall global carbon emissions. Over the last 20 years, NABERS has proven that “What gets measured gets managed." NABERS' customers have saved an average of 30-40% on their energy over 10 years. This remarkable energy reduction typically results in considerable cost savings for building owners through lower energy bills, for example. In addition, we’ve seen our rating system drive financial growth and solid returns in portfolios across multiple building sectors, signalling a market shift towards recognition that sustainable buildings are more desirable, higher value assets.
Reducing emissions from our buildings will always be one of the most effective and cost-efficient measures we can take to act on climate change. We hope our new "It’s in the Stars" campaign will inspire people who really want to make a difference for our planet’s sustainability to start with reducing energy, water and waste from the buildings they live, work and play in. - Carlos Flores, Director, NABERS
NABERS is a star-rating system that uses real data to compare the energy efficiency, water usage, indoor air quality, waste management, and carbon emissions of our buildings.
NABERS ratings are currently available for the following sectors: offices, shopping centres, apartments, hotels, data centres and public hospitals. Later in 2021, they will be available for the residential aged care and retirement living sector, followed by sectors such as schools and industrial buildings and warehouses in the next few years, with the eventual aim to have ratings available for every building type.
As the campaign gets underway, our team of established, knowledgeable and friendly sustainability experts at NABERS are on hand to assist new customers with questions, and to talk through the process and practicalities of achieving a first-time rating for their building.
Accompanying the new campaign is also a suite of fact sheets available on our website for each different building type. Each fact sheet comprehensively answers the top 10 questions that typically arise for new NABERS users. These fact sheets are a useful tool to help customers at the internal sell-in stage within an organisation and support the rationale - and importance - of rating a building’s environmental performance.
We look forward to welcoming new customers to NABERS and supporting them on the journey to operating net zero emissions buildings. With NABERS you can unlock building sustainability potential - it’s in the stars.
NABERS is offering fee-free ratings until 30 June 2021, so the only cost to building owners will be the Assessor fee. There’s never been a better time to set your building’s sustainability course.
