2017-18 was possibly our biggest year to date. We celebrated our 20th year, and launched three new rating tools and Carbon Neutral certification. NABERS for public hospitals had the most successful initial uptake of any NABERS tool to date. And, we had a record uptake of shopping centre and indoor environment ratings.
New rating tools
Over the past twelve months, we launched NABERS Co-Assess, NABERS for Apartment Buildings, a new NABERS Waste rating tool, and one of the world’s first Carbon Neutral building certification schemes.
We also witnessed the spectacular debut of NABERS for Public Hospitals. With 274 hospitals certified, this was the fastest ever uptake of a new NABERS tool.
Growing uptake of existing rating tools
Over 2017-18 we saw record levels of certified shopping centres throughout Australia, and a whopping 32% increase in NABERS Indoor Environment ratings for office buildings.
From 1 July 2017, the CBD mandatory disclosure threshold on commercial office space was lowered from 2000 square metres to 1000 square metres. This resulted in a huge 21% growth in the number of office buildings disclosing their energy performance with NABERS.
These and other world-leading initiatives using NABERS have helped Australian buildings save more than $790 million and 5.4 million tonnes of CO2 since the program started in 1998.
