Expanding NABERS to new sectors
NABERS is committed to creating a sustainable built environment by reducing carbon emissions and minimising water usage and landfill waste.
As part of our commitment to meeting the Australian government's 2050 net zero emissions targets, we're working hard to expand the NABERS rating tool into more building sectors through NABERS Accelerate.
NABERS Accelerate is a program that facilitates collaboration with industry experts to advance the development and adoption of new NABERS ratings.

Advisory panel The advisory panel consists of key industry stakeholders in new sectors, who are consulted through regular meetings during the rating tool development. |
Why should I participate in NABERS Accelerate?
Industry stakeholder collaboration is key to building a sustainable future and developing robust benchmarks for our rating tools.
Participating in NABERS rating tool development is an excellent opportunity for your building sector to be represented and included in the national benchmark.
We invite you to work with us to build a rating product that meets your organisational needs. If you are interested in participating in data collection or advisory groups, or want to know more, please contact us.
What sectors will NABERS launch next?
NABERS has received approval from our National Steering Committee to expand into Private Hospitals, Medical Centres and Universities.
What about other sectors?
As part of our strategic plan, NABERS aims to expand to all major building types where NABERS ratings are not yet available.
NABERS is conducting pre-sector feasibility work in several other sectors which include supermarkets, TAFE, built-to-rent apartment buildings and student accommodation.
How can I get involved?
We are undertaking industry stakeholder interviews to understand the market potential and technical feasibility for the development of a NABERS Energy and Water tool in these sectors. The study will help us propose and prioritise the next sectors for NABERS expansion to our National Steering Committee.
If you or someone you know works in, or has significant involvement in these sectors, please contact us to get involved.
